how we learn...

Happy Friday!
Before we get into the writing today, I want to invite and remind you about the Creative Pulse: movement improvisation with live music by Adrian Hutapea- this Sunday at 1:00 pm. It is going to be a lot of fun! Read all about and sign up HERE.

I have been reflecting on some of the core tenants in the work I offer, and I keep coming back to: there is wisdom and healing within each of us, and that we build a relationship to it by learning to listen to non-linear, imaginative, and sensorial process. It is like in Alice Through the Looking Glass, she is only able to access the garden she longs for, by walking in the opposite direction.

Here is more musings on that:

That impulse to draw in and contract your belly, then lean left and release comes again and again, you let it move you, ride through you like a wave, contract/release, lean and straighten- making it a little bigger or a little smaller. Your mind tires of trying to make sense so you let it scramble while you stay with the action. And suddenly it changes, the movement shifts and you are in a different landscape of sensory input.

Later you reflect, what was that? Why did my body need to do that, and then how did it know to release it to the next action? Like wind shaking seeds from trees and spiraling them to their new home in the soil, the movements that move us have their own process, purpose and knowledge. They are medicine, and they teach.

So we must learn to listen. The mind, spirit, and body are not separate, the physical is the densest layer of the energy field, which includes thoughts, feelings, and longings. We listen to what arises in our creative state, and we reflect on it as parable, lesson, data.

You are invited to not dismiss or control your movement impulses, but to embody them. Let yourself be moved enough so that the impulse and flow of energy becomes clear. Then reflect, allow imprint. Like gazing at sacred geometry, or hearing a poem- we may not consciously grasp the full meaning right away, but it is affecting a deep part of our mind, hearts and body.

We are in a way subverting the mind, ego and intellect. We let them have their place, but not be the boss.

We are letting an emergence of knowing through our somatic field, through our body, and through our energy.  Through layers of our beings that, in our society, don't normally get prioritized as the ones with wisdom. So we hold with more dedication to this new/ancient way of dropping into all we can access within us. It may take time and practice, but it is there.

We are not telling our bodies what to do or how to heal, we are letting our bodies tell us.
